Do you need a new TV for your living room, office, bedroom, or some other place where the medium size is just the right size? Look no further: For a limited time, the 43-inch Amazon Fire TV Omni Series is on sale for $290. That’s a hefty $120 off, and an unbeatable deal for a set that’s likely to last you a decade or more. The Omni series is notable for a number of reasons, one of which is Amazon’s built-in Fire TV interface. This provides access to not only all the major streaming services, but also a nifty selection of games and apps.
What did we say about all those games and apps? Well, here’s some great news: Zoom has joined that list. Big screen video calls, anyone? To use it, you will need a USB camera. Amazon recommends one of Logitech’s webcams, but in theory any Zoom-compatible webcam should work.
All Omni Series models also support hands-free Alexa operation, which means you can say things like “Alexa, turn on the TV” or “Alexa, watch What we do in the shadows on Hulu” without even touching the remote. Honestly, I didn’t think it was a big deal until I started testing one of these TVs, but trust me: the hands-free commands are pretty convenient.
Features like that, along with the aforementioned app support, help give Fire TV an edge over Roku. And I say this as someone who tends to prefer the interface of the latter. Right now, especially with the addition of Zoom support, Fire is winning the smart TV war.
Ease of use versus performance
Omni Fire TV is easy to use and provides easy access to all your favorite services, especially with the four buttons on the remote that allow you to directly access Prime Video, Netflix, Disney+, or Netflix. That said, some models, at least the 43-inch one in particular, lack support for more advanced features. It does not support Dolby Vision at this size, although the same TV does support this feature in the 65-inch and 75-inch sizes.
This model is cheap and the larger sizes are on sale, but there are some features that aren’t available on the smaller TVs. That being said, it does have three different HDMI ports, as well as a dedicated HDMI port for surround sound systems that will give you a more immersive experience.
Actually, almost all the models in the Omni series are on sale right now. Here are a few others if you want to check them out:
