Armie Hammer breaks two-year silence after sexual assault allegations

American actor Armie Hammer has revealed that he was sexually abused as a teenager and considered taking his own life following the allegations against him.

The 36-year-old’s career has been in free fall since a series of damaging allegations surfaced about explicit messages he allegedly sent on social media and a rape allegation by a woman in Los Angeles in March 2021.

Hammer, who vehemently denies all criminal allegations and entered rehab for drug and alcohol abuse in May 2021, said he would not part with the past two years.

Hammer previously played the Winklevoss twins on The Social Network and starred opposite Timothee Chalamet in the critically acclaimed drama Call Me By Your Name (BBC/PA)

In his first interview since the allegations were made, he told the Air Mail digital newsletter: “Now I am grateful for everything that happened to me. Now I am a healthier, happier and more balanced person. I can be there for my kids in a way I never was.

“I am truly grateful for my life and my recovery and everything. I would not go back and undo everything that happened to me.”

The Call Me By Your Name actor later said: “He had a very intense and extreme lifestyle.

“I would pick up these women, throw them into this whirlwind of traveling, sex, drugs and high-flying emotions, and then as soon as I was done, I would drop them and move on to the next one. woman, leaving that woman feeling abandoned or used.

“I am here to own up to my mistakes, take responsibility for the fact that I was a jerk, that I was selfish, that I used people to make myself feel better, and when I was done, I moved on. And he treated people worse than they should have been treated.”

During the interview, Hammer stated that his interest in BDSM evolved since he was sexually abused by a youth pastor when he was 13 years old over a period that lasted nearly a year.

“What that did for me was it brought sexuality into my life in a way that was completely out of my control,” she said.

“I was powerless in the situation. I had no agency in the situation. So my interests were: I want to be in control of the situation, sexually.”

He claimed that the sexual abuse he endured as a child “set a dangerous precedent in my life”, resulting in his sexual interests becoming in control.

Following the initial allegation controversy, Hammer stepped down from his starring role opposite Jennifer Lopez in the comedy film Shotgun Wedding and was replaced by Miles Teller in the television series The Offer, a drama about the making of The Godfather.

“My financial state is that I’m not just broke, but I’m massively in debt,” he said.

Hammer said that after being “completely canceled and excluded,” he attempted to take his own life while in quarantine in the Cayman Islands in February 2021.

“I just walked into the ocean and swam as far as I could in the hope that I would drown, get hit by a boat, or get eaten by a shark.

“Then I realized that my children were still on land and that I couldn’t do that to my children.”

Last summer, Hammer explored the possibility of selling timeshares in the Cayman Islands, visiting the office of a resort where his friend worked and watching him talk to clients.

He said: “Someone took a video, sent it to TMZ and it blew up. I ended up getting sucked into an immigration investigation because I didn’t have a work permit, even though I didn’t have a salary, I didn’t make any money, I wasn’t on the payroll.

“What can I do? It’s like, you don’t want me to act, but you’re not going to let me have a normal life either?

“No one is going to hire me. Nobody will insure me. I can’t link to a project, nothing. And nobody is going to touch me because if they hire me, then they are the people who support the abusers. And then they risk being canceled themselves.”

Hammer said that “there is no possibility of redemption” in the society in which we live.

He added: “Someone makes a mistake and we throw it away like a broken disposable camera.”

In September, a three-part Discovery+ series titled House Of Hammer, produced by Hammer’s aunt Casey Hammer, featured on-camera interviews with two of Hammer’s alleged victims detailing some of their alleged abuse.

Hammer previously played the Winklevoss twins on The Social Network and starred opposite Timothee Chalamet in the critically acclaimed drama Call Me By Your Name.

He married American television personality Elizabeth Chambers in May 2010 and the couple have two children.
